Alien Xenomorph costume from 1997?
Happy Alien day 2O24 everyone!
Here is a costume video I've wanted to share for a while. Through the late '90s and early 2000s, I was making a lot of costumes for myself for Halloween and I actually took a lot of old school film photos documenting the process of building some of those costumes.
I have always wanted to share those with you and so that leads us to Alien day today!

Silicone mask making process with 3D printing
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
This is just a quick overview of how a silicone mask is made, sculpting the master and the mold making process, and how 3D printing could be used to help make the mask or mold. This does not cover every step or detail! It is just meant as a general overview.

C-3PO knee disks - fixing a mistake I made / alternate solution
Переглядів 201Рік тому
One of the issues I had with printing the knees was the long print time and a mistake I made when doing free form deformation scaling on the lower leg. I inadvertently scaled the knee disks and made them egg shaped instead of a perfect circle. I cut the disks off with a Dremel just to salvage the print, and modelled my own disks with a captive nut inside for a 1/4-20 nut and bolt to act as a pi...
How to make a low budget backlit display for props
Переглядів 507Рік тому
This is how I make a simple backlit displays for props. In particular for builds where animation is not needed or if budget doesnt allow for a real functional display. All I use is a 5mm white LED, a housing for the LED (you can 3D model or print one, depending on the size of your screen, and some cotton batting or a cottom ball to act as a diffuser). Simply print your screen graphic on white p...

This is how I installed my Grant Classic steering wheel on my 1995 Jeep YJ. Should be the same for any 1989 to 1995 YJ and possibly other Jeep models. There are other install videos out there but none that show you how to wire up the horn button on the Grant wheel. This is how you do it! This is the Grant steering wheel I bought. Making a quick mold box for one part molds
Переглядів 3642 роки тому
A very simple trick to save you time when creating one part molds. Instead of building an elaborate box with a clay bottom, I will often use double sided tape and hot glue together a foam core box. This is a very quick way to create one part molds for objects with flat bottoms!

it does rub off a lot though.
Nope, not in any of my prop work. Probably used it for over 10 years the same way and it never has rubbed off on me. If you watch the full video, I even demonstrate trying to rub it off, it doesnt come off
@@pandapropsncostumes that is crazy because I used alclad chrome ii a tone myself and mine rubbed off of every single piece just by rubbing my fingers across.
good idea
Thanks for the update and the way you explain things thanks once again for the efforts and for sharing this with us appreciation 👍🙏🇩🇰
have anyone tried this method on PETG prints?
Where do you get the slotted screws for the clips?
I just use dome head slotted / flat head screws from a local hardware store.
I need a custom mask made of my opponent's face for a fight to practice striking. Please respond if you can help. I will pay for customization and help you sell a ton of customs for other people.
Oxygen inhibits resin polymerisation (curing) meaning the outer surface won’t cure in air. Once you’ve done your initial cure, put a glass container full of water in the curing station and cure it in the water. This limits the oxygen on the outer surface so you won’t need to wash it in alcohol afterwards. It cures faster in water too.
Building a captain Rex costume/ load out for airsoft and have been wondering how to attach it to a plate carrier. This helps out a ton!
Thank you for sharing this. Amazing work. Can‘t wait to See your Xenomorph 2.0. i am blown away. 👏🏻
Why not do the following: 1. Make a 3D scan of your head using a Revo 3D scanner. 2. 3D print that model in PLA and now you have a life cast of your head. 3. Make. Make a clay sculpt of whatever mask form you want on your life cast and then from there use the classic silicon mask technique you describe to make a rigid 2 part mold and pour a silicon mask from that. Basically you are using 3D printing to easily make a life cast that would otherwise be a very involved process to do.
Hi, do you share the project on any site?
What boots are these?
Same as the screen used boots, Harley Davidson Dendon boots. They are out of production but you can find them sometimes on EBay or used etc. I was actually that person that originally identified them!
Thank you....this is the way
Cool I like the old school methods. Total creativity.
woah a blast from the past ! looks so good!
You're the best. I keep coming back to refresh my techniques before I start another.
Thanks! Glad the tips help :)
Near impossible for a HUNK cosplay. Wearing a gasmask makes it so hard
The microphone could fit inside the mask no problem. You can also cut the headband of the mic off, and just curl the boom mic up and stick it inside the gas mask. Lots of room in there. Leave the foam on it to protect against moisture
@@pandapropsncostumes I suppose I can try that. Appreciate it
Does anyone know how you would make this microphone sound more like a specific salesman from 1997?
Great video, thanks so much for making this. One improvement I'd made here is to measure the height of your head from the top of your skull (plus any hair) to the TIP of your chin (don't let your chin sit in the crook of the caliper) but take this measurement with your MOUTH OPEN. Some helmets will enclose your chin and you will want room to move your jaw to talk or eat (or even just to chew gum), and for other bucket-style helmets, like mandalorian helmets, you will not want your jaw showing while you talk/chew, so when in doubt, add extra room (maybe as much as 3-4 centimeters) on that height measurement.
Good point!
hey, i had a question, im makeing spartan 2 armor from halo, and i am wondering if it would work the same way? in the game the armor is directly atached to the upper arm, would puting a second strap that goes around the arm along with the upper strap work for that?
This is amazing
Thank you for your video.. so useful.. I've got a question... is this resin toxic?
What about voice changers? I’m trying to pull off a Jason Todd Arkham Knight cosplay but I’d like a voice changer so I sound like him when he has the helmet on
That's brilliant! Thank you so much!
Cette ceinture a l'air magnifique ! 😍
I use this on my motorcycle when people can't hear me
To summarize your current process: Wash all parts with dish soap and dry 3 coats black duplicolor sandable primer. Wait 5 mins between coats 1000 grit wet sand 2 k clear 1 light coat, wait 5 mins 1 light coat, wait 5 mins Medium coat, wait 24 hours Alclad 3 coats but maintain the opacity Wait a few hours to dry 2 k clear top coat Is this correct? Thanks for all of the tips.
This is an almost 4 year old video and techniques have changed. My budget fast version would be 3 coats of Duplicolor black primer, fine scotch Brite pad, Duplicolor gloss clear acrylic lacquer. Alclad, leave it uncoated. Applied properly it's just fine for durability. Better version: Duplicolor black, fine scotch bright, 2k gloss, Alumaluster, Dralumen, Alclad or Spaztix, 2k clear. Wet sand 600 works fine, no need for 1000 grit.
If I use Alclad clear, do I want the Alclad gloss clear, or Alclad Aqua acrylic gloss varnish?
Great video and explanation of parts and functionality...especially that black keeper sleeve. Explains a lot with my '89 YJ with a million PO mods
Have you ever tried pouring monster clay liquid form into pla 3d printed molds to test the print before pouring silicone. Or will the monster clay ruin the pla due to it being hot.
Heated clay is far too hot, it would warp and distort most prints.
@@pandapropsncostumes yea I tested it and not ideal. It not only warps but sticks on pretty well in the indents.
What is a cosplay caliper Actually Called if I were to buy 1?
i know this is fairly old post and i dont know if you found an answer yet but you could look up outside caliper or hinged outside caliper.
I have not brushed a whole 3d print with resin but i have used a Q tip to fill imperfections after sanding before i primed the print and it fills the issues fantastic and its easy to sand too.
Hi. Could you share the referance picture you made in photoshop.
Excellent, watch this one first and save yourself a lot of time.
you said "horn hole" :)
That’s cool I need one
gr8 viDO - but in the real wrLd, it’s a tad(to put it super lightly) difficult lining up the differant score cuts perfectly👋
Thank you for posting this, I've been trying to find something for my Mandalorian cosplay for a while
Hi thanks for the video. Very helpful. Which model Grant steering wheel is this ? Any link would be really helpful. Thank you
Nice! I'll try that out on my current build
Can you take it off yourself ?
No, usually requires 1-2 helpers to get dressed
@@pandapropsncostumes how long is that procedure ?
@@adammcintee4439 maybe 20 minutes with care and not rushing
@@pandapropsncostumesim sure would be very hard but being c3po would be an experience you cant pass down
this is a really useful video I might use this for my power armor or desert ranger cosplays I have coming up
Out of curiosity what type of microphone are you using with the amplifier? I’ve been trying to research mics for cosplay but don’t know what those types are.
The mic is a head mounted boom mic that loops around your head and goes over the ears. It simply plugs into the amp. It usually comes with the voice amp and doesn't need to be purchased separately.
Awesome, this is really helpful thank you.
Thanks bro for the info. Great work. I'm doing a Bandai mandalorian kit with soft goods. I need to buy a compressor for my airbrush. But I was told by a representative from a local hobby shop that Alclad will destroy any cheap airbrush which I got mine for $40. So I'm not sure which way I'm going to paint it.
It depends on the type of airbrush that you have the reason why They probably mentioned that there might be damage is because Alclad paints are lacquer based. So you have to use a lacquer to clean the airbrush. Depending on the type of airbrush, whether it's a single action or double action or siphon feed, some of the fittings or o-rings inside might be made out of a cheap material and lacquer can soften or dissolve those materials. On higher quality airbrushes those parts are just made to a higher standard and can withstand stronger solvents like lacquer thinner. I generally don't paint costume parts with a dual action airbrush. It's kind of pointless because you don't need that sort of fidelity or control for medium to large pieces. For a lot of my props, I've actually used a single action Paasche H airbrush probably for over 20 years and I've put everything through it including lacquers water based enamels you name it and it's still going strong. I've never replaced a single part in it. You might want to look into that one. They're not very expensive and they are tanks
Hi, great idea and awesome build but I have a quick question. May I ask what you used to stick the paper to the plastic front for the monitor? I tried using a glue to do the same thing but it made the paper wet and ruined the picture 😔 is there a certain way to do it? Thankyou 🤗
Hi there, I just used a tiny drop of e6000 on each corner of the clear plastic using a toothpick and glued that to the paper and then I used some tiny drops of CA glue on each corner of the clear plastic to glue it on to the frame that you see here. Hope that helps
Perfect thankyou so much that's a huge help 🙂 I love fifth element by the way 😁 you've done an awesome job on the prop 😁
Thank you!!
I’m using liquid. Latex but it seems really thin and runny what are some tips
It shouldn't be, it should be the consistency of pancake batter. Make sure to shake the bottle up before using it
